Hayato Tani leads his army of contestants through all the games and onto the 'Show Down', hoping to beat Takeshi and storm the castle. The handsome "ladies favourite" is always helpful and generous; especially towards women.
Hayato Tani in the 'Unaired Pilot'[]
Originally, he was Takeshi's advisor. It was until he and Junji decided to overthrew him and become the count of the castle.
However on 2013, as per interview with him, he claims that he was indeed the 'original' owner of the castle but after the pilot, he claimed that it didn't work well. Thus, he swapped with Takeshi with the roles.
Personality[]
Hayato Tani (General Lee) is a determined and heroic general. He has the charisma and skills in order to lead his contestants into battle.
In the first episode, he is very determined and stands no nonsense from the contestants. He is even willing to push and shove contestants if they are failing.
Upon reaching the castle, he interviews some of the remaining contestants and congratulates them for getting to the final phase of his attack to the castle. When he started his attack on the castle, he would shout commands to the contestants and orders them to keep fighting but when his army lost the battle, he angrily guides the retreating contestants out of the castle and shouts angrily to Takeshi. He even tried to attack the castle by himself but was thwarted by the number of Emerald guards in the castle.
Everytime Tani lost the final battle, he would give his remarks and frustrations before leaving and preaparing for another attack. In the first episode, he went face directly into the camera and tries to recruit new contestants for the next attack which is the next episode and scurries off in fright.
As the series progress, Tani's hard portrayal has become quite soft especially when the contestants involved women and children. He sometimes helps out and would sometimes help them out. He also become getting used to his loses and tries better next time.
In the end, Takeshi and Tani decided to end their rivalry by signing a peace treaty but was quickly voided becuase of Takeshi's antics

Hayato Tani reappears in the Takeshi's Castle reboot.
Almost 33 years since he last led an army of contestants into battle, Tani has returned! Fuelled by the same desire to defeat Takeshi, he guides his team through a series of challenging games, with the ultimate goal of storming the castle in the final Show Down. He will work together with Subaru Kimura.
